Condolences
Toby Gilsig Bea October 2, 2009

Dear Ron,

Please accept our condolences on the  passing of your mother.

Bea, aleha hashalom, was my introduction to the Canadian Institute for International Affairs, now the Canadian International Council. Through her, I became a member of the Board of the Montreal branch and soon after, President, a role which I  resigned just last week.

Bea stayed on our Board until last year. She was, as you well know, a delight. I loved the stories of her rich and varied life, and listened, fascinated, to her accounts of Pierre Trudeau, Joe Louis, Irving Layton...

My wife Clare and I will remember her with great respect and fondness, and we will attend the memorial service on Sunday.

Sincerely,

Toby Gilsig

Farewell to a Grande Dame of Montreal: Beatrice Bazar

Dear Ron and family,

I was deeply saddened to learn of Beatrice's passing and wanted to extend my deepest symphaties for your loss. I know how hard this time must be for you.

Your mother, Beatrice, was a kind, soft spoken and passionate woman. She had been a mentor to me for well over 25 years, starting when we mett in ACNU-Montreal. She was always there with heartfelt encouragement and loving support. It had been a delignt in the 90's to have also been her neighbour on Clarke Avenue.

Beatrice will be profoundly missed by all who where graced with having had the pleasure of knowing her.

You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Paul Gagner

Past President and Honorary member

Hi everyone, family, friends, blessed individuals whom have had the honour of having their lives touched by Beatrice Bazar.

I just wanted to say how till this day Beebee is a legend in my life! I have not seen here in over 5 years now but consider myself so lucky to have had several Friday night dinners at her apartment in Sherbrooke with her and her grand-daughters and the friends that were lucky enough to be invited! Always elegant and beautiful, wise and graceful, with a wealth of treasure and sparkle in her eyes, always a generous host, with candles lit and a prayer on her lips for the children.

Beatrice Bazar is with out a doubt one of the most extraordinary, exceptional and admirable people I have ever met in my 32 years of life! I still speak so foundly of her to my friends here in Dubai, her legacy lives on in the hearts and memory of everyone whose path has crossed with hers! Beebee, we will always love you.

I just wanted to share this wonderful poem about passing to the other side;

Death is nothing at all. It does not count. I have only slipped away into the next room. Nothing has happened. Everything remains exactly as it was. I am I, and you are you, and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged. Whatever we were to each other, that we are still. Call me by my old name, speak to me in the easy way which you always used. Put no difference into your tone. Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me. Pray for me. Let my name be the household word that it always was. Let my name be spoken without effort, without the ghost of a shadow upon it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was. There is absolutely unbroken continuity. What is this death but a negligible accident? Why should I be out of your mind because I am out of your sight? I am but waiting for you, for an interval somewhere very near, just around the corner. All is well. Nothing is past, nothing is lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before, only better; infinitely happier and forever."

All my love and Respect,

BB was a dear and delightful human being. Her great achievements were hidden behind a modest persona. Arnold and I have many fond memories of sharing time at the cottage with her and Bernie. Spirited discussions on many and varied subjects enlivened many gatherings. She will be greatly missed by friends and family.

Dear Ron and Len. Those are extremely touching words. You summed up your mother's essence beautifully. Your mom was a very special woman, and I feel privileged to have known her and to have been part of her circle. It was particularly moving for me to have been able to speak with her and to share my reminiscences with her - and with you - at her bedside this past week. My thoughts are with you, Ron, with Len, and with your children, and grand-children. Lewis.

Howard J. Simkover My Cousin Bea October 1, 2009

Dear Ron and Len, and all of your extended families: I was so sad to hear of the passing of your mother - my Cousin Bea. I had not seen her since 2006, but I was always aware of her and spoke with her by phone from time to time. She told me that she was on the Internet and I had sent her a few emails. In the mid-1990's, when I was doing my work on documenting our family genealogy, Bea was a great help to me; I spoke/corresponded with her on many occasions, and she provided a wealth of detailed information on numerous people which I was able to record in written form for our relatives - present and in the distant future. I have memories of when we all lived together in that building on Clarke Avenue in Montreal, in the very early 1950's. In fact, the memories of Clarke Avenue are my very earliest. I knew something of her incredible accomplishments. The list you have published of her involvement in so many excellent causes and organizations is a tribute to Bea's amazing life. We have lost a great person, and our country will be the poorer for it. But to me, she will always be my "Cousin Bea". I send you my best thoughts and sincere condolences on your loss. Cousin Howard

To Ron Bazar and all the friends of Beatrice Bazar,

I was very sorry to learn that Beatrice Bazar passed away last Monday. She was a dear friend even if I met her nor not so long ago, around the year 2002. In the last years we had very interesting luncheons at “Chez Nick”. I was very fond of her. And she spoke dearly of her family which was very important to her. As you say so well, her incredible smile, with and kindness will always be remembered, as well as her intelligence of the World and her creativity. She was for a long time a very important member of the United Nations Association in Canada, both in Ottawa and at the Greater Montréal Branch. We had the honor to count her among our most faithful  members. She came as often as she could to our annual meetings and to the public lectures we organized à UNAC-Greater Montréal.

At our annual meeting in May 2008,  UNAC and UNAC-Greater Montréal  recognized her as an Honorary Member of GreaterMontreal Branch in grateful recognition of her volunteer efforts to supportthe objectives of UNA-Canada and all her achievements.

On behalf of the members of our Board and of all the members of UNAC-Greater Montréal, please accept our deepest sympathy for your loss.
